Paramedics were called to a property on Palmerston Street in Annerley just before 9am on Monday after reports a tradesman had suffered an electric shock during an inspection.

Police have confirmed the 57-year-old Drewvale man died as a result of his injuries.

Zen Catering director Steve Morris, whose business had rented a commercial kitchen at the property since 2008, confirmed the incident occurred underneath their business.

"Underneath the kitchen is a locked basement accessed only via a neighbouring property and not managed by Zen," he said in a statement.

"It is understood a tradesman engaged by the property's landlord was working in the basement, which is prone to flooding, when the incident occurred."

The scene is in lockdown with police and Energex workers on site.

The Electrical Safety Office and Workplace Health and Safety Queensland will be investigating the incident.

Zen Catering has moved its operations to a venue at Albion.
