Turner's one of four Raiders playing in the showcase game, with Canberra captain Jarrod Croker joining him in the World All Stars, while Jack Wighton and Aidan Sezer will play for the Indigenous All Stars at Newcastle on Friday night.

The 28-year-old is coming towards the end of his first pre-season with the Raiders after switching from England Super League club St Helens.

He has his sights set on being part of coach Ricky Stuart's team for round one against North Queensland in Townsville on March 4.

The All Star game gives him his first chance to impress and then back it up in the Raiders' only pre-season trial - against Newcastle at Seiffert Oval next Saturday.

But he'll be doing it with most of his teammates back in Canberra watching on.

"It's going to be my first run out and the fact that it's in my first game is a bit weird, but I'm really looking forward to it," Turner said.

"I've got things to prove, well to try and prove, while I'm over here and there's probably no better stage than to try and do it tomorrow night.

"I'm just going to go out there and give it my best shot and hopefully things will work out - use it as a stepping stone for the start of the season.

"I've not got too much idea with what's going on in the trial and how many player's Ricky's going to be playing, but it's got to be an aim.

"I want the chance to try and impress and force my way into the team for round one."

But the All Star experience has been about much more than just a game of football.

He's taken the opportunity to learn as much as he can about the Indigenous culture, having already studied it a bit before he came Down Under.

Turner said there were some parallels between his own background and that of Australia's Indigenous population, with his Jamaican heritage having also "suffered hardships" and "fought to be recognised".

But he didn't want to dwell too much on the conflict of the past, instead seeing it as a game to help people move forward.

"I've been getting to know the Indigenous culture and really embracing what their culture's all about and their history, which I've found so interesting," Turner said.

"It's something that I can relate to with my heritage, I feel really privileged and proud to have been here this week and to say that I got the chance to take part in it."
