The annual Julia Creek Dirt n Dust Festival officially kicked off its festivities with the launch party at the Domain Central Coffee Club in Townsville on Thursday.

The official launch of the Festival was held as a thank you to sponsors and include fooded, drinks, live music and presentations on the event as well as a red carpet and a taste of the country experience with a whip cracking show and live country music.
McKinlay shire mayor Belinda Murphy joined Townsville Mayor Jenny Hill as well as other council members and representatives of the Dust n Dust sponsors.
Sponsors included Tourism and Events Queensland, South32, Daikin Australia, Marwill Electrics and Donohues.
Organisers said that in addition to being the official start of the festival lead up, the night was also being held as a thank you to all the sponsors and stakeholders who have worked tirelessly to help bring the iconic event to life this year.
“Without all of these people the event wouldn’t even get off the ground, so we hold this night to thank them for everything they’ve been doing for us and to kick off the celebrations for the Festival this year,” President of Julia Creek Dirt n Dust Festival Stephen Malone said.

“It was a night of music, entertainment, good food, good drinks and good company.”
The Coffee Club was transformed into a country party with bales of hay, country music, wine and beer to drink and canapes under the night sky.
“It’s was a great night to kick off this exciting Festival that we’re all looking forward to,” Mr Malone said.
Mr Malone said anyone could enjoy the family friendly weekend.
“It’s perfect for families and anyone who wants to have a good time,” he said. “We’ve got something for everyone here with the Senior tri, Junior tri, bull riding, horse racing and novelty events.”
This year’s event begins on Friday April 7.
