A cloudy evening and a sprinkling of light rain kept the temperature down which made for good conditions and the rain didn’t last long enough to make the pill become greasy.
The first half was an even affair with Cloncurry dominating possession but Keas’ speedy back were always dangerous on the counter attack.
Cloncurry made their intentions clear with the first five-pointer of the evening which they were unable to convert.
But they did add a penalty shortly afterwards to go 8-0 up.
Back came Keas from the restart and having forced a scrum feed they got over in the corner to reduce arrears to 8-5, though they too missed the conversion.
This spurred on Cloncurry to greater efforts and they thought they had a try but were held up over the line.
Undeterred they pressed on and grabbed the try with the next play of the day.
This time they did convert to make it 15-5.
Both sides carved out chances as the half drew towards its conclusion though neither side could add to their tally.
At 15-5 at half time it remained anyone’s game.
But it was Cloncurry that stepped up a gear in the second half.
Five minutes in, a kick out by Keas failed to find touch and a Cloncurry back raced through the gap to score an unstoppable try.
They added a penalty in the next few minutes to make it a daunting 18 points gap.
All credit to Keas who kept their heads up and bagged a try to reduce the margin to 23-10.
That was the trigger for Cloncurry to raise their game again and they scored two tries to run into an unassailable 37-10 lead.
Again Keas refused to bow down and they spent the last few minutes camped in Curry’s half, and were rewarded with a couple of late five pointers to make the scoreline more respectable.
But they were unable to stop a win for the visitors.
Final score: Cloncurry 40, Keas 30.
