A highly anticipated confrontation between the brilliant Mitchell and Fyfe adds considerable spice to a pre-season series clash ahead of the home-and-away premiership campaign.

The heavily decorated Hawthorn superstar import headlines a host of Eagles headed back into playing action after a substantially depleted West Coast went down by 33 points to premiership fancies Greater Western Sydney in country New South Wales last Saturday.

Fremantle is expected to have almost an entire preferred starting 22 available for their first pre-season series engagement.

Only star ruckman Aaron Sandilands as he recovers from a calf strain and key defender Alex Pearce who is sidelined with a broken leg as well as midfielder Harley Bennell with his on-going calf problems will be out of contention to play.

Sandilands, 34, is tipped to recover in time to lead the Dockers on-ball battery in the premiership season opener against Geelong in Perth late next month.

Eagles senior assistant-coach Justin Longmuir confirmed that Mitchell and star West Coast front liners Josh Kennedy, Matt Priddis, Jeremy McGovern, Luke Shuey, Andrew Gaff, Shannon Hurn and Mark LeCras would all play.

Top ruckmen Nic Naitanui and Scott Lycett in their recoveries from knee surgery as well as nippy utility Liam Duggan are out of contention for West Coast.

"We expect all of them apart from Nic Nat and Scotty Lycett to play next week," Longmuir said on 6PR.

"They're all fit and ready to go."

Key defender Will Schofield will have a sprained left ankle assessed through this week, but is unlikely to make the trip north.

West Coast is also tipped to expose departed North Melbourne veteran big man Drew Petrie in the ruck as well as another marking target up forward against the Dockers defensive battery.

The 316-game Roos gun has completed a superb inaugural summer with his adopted unit since his shock crossing as a mature-age rookie.

Petrie, 34, is looming as a certain starter in an emotion-charged season opener against his old club late next month.

Longmuir estimated that the majority of the Eagles frontline candidates to play in the season opening home-and-away season against North at Etihad Stadium on Sunday March 26, would make two full pre-season series appearances.

West Coast round out their summer practice match campaign in a home clash with Melbourne on Thursday March 9.

"It's probably most club's mantra to play their best team in two of the (pre-season) games and we choose to do that in our last two," said Longmuir.

"So, they will all front up next week."

West Coast was hopelessly out gunned in defence against the Giants with powerhouse forward Jon Patton and resting ruckman dominant with strong pack marking and avenue to goals.

Conversely, the Eagles forward division lacked finishing power and managed just five goals in the absence Kennedy, LeCras, Jack Darling, Jamie Cripps and Josh Hill which is virtually their starting team attacking brigade.
