The vehicle was cleared about 7.15am but heavy peak hour traffic was only slowly improving.
Traffic was left crawling for more than 13 kilometres after the truck broke down on Queensland's busiest stretch of road.
The two left lanes were blocked on the M1 northbound at Yatala after the crash about 6.15am, slowing traffic to a crawl as far south as Coomera.
A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman said paramedics were not called to the scene.
Australian Traffic Network traffic reporter Olympia Kwitowski said delays were back to Coomera about 7.50am.
