Producer Chris Keeble says it’s the first time bringing the show to outback Queensland, after touring the show three years ago.
“The first year we did the Gold Coast Arts Centre, and we’re coming your way for the first time next week,” Ms Keeble said.
Pearl: The Janis Joplin is showing as part of International Women’s Week, acknowledging the trailblazing spirit of legendary musician Janis Joplin.
Best remembered for her rebellious lifestyle, distinctive voice and liberal outlook on life and love, Joplin died at age 27 from a heroin overdose in 1970.
Ms Keeble describes the ‘rockumentary’ as an interpretational musical presentation, not a tribute show.
“It’s like a live documentary on stage. I write and script the show, we have multimedia imagery and footage, and a live band on stage performing all the hits.
“It’s not high brow, it’s not low brow, it’s somewhere in the middle,” Ms Keeble said.
The name of the show comes from Joplin’s final solo album, but also a nickname given to her by close friends.
Pearl: The Janis Joplin Show plays next Thursday March 2 at the Mount Isa Civic Centre.
Tickets are $35 from Civic Centre box office or www.experiencemountisa.com
