The AFL Women's match review panel charged Barclay for engaging in rough conduct in the third-quarter incident that left Haynes writhing in pain before she was helped from the ground, playing no further part in the 43-all draw.

Barclay's physicality will be sorely missed against the all-conquering Lions who have notched wins over Melbourne, Fremantle and Collingwood.

Barclay's suspension aside, the Giants emerged unscathed from the draw against Fremantle with ruck Erin McKinnon picking up the Rising Star nomination for her 31 hit-outs in a dominant performance on Saturday.

McKinnon towers over her  rivals as the tallest player in the competition at 189cm, but she's also the youngest having only turned 18 in December.

And she may well still be growing.

"If I was I'm definitely slowing down quite a bit - it'd be nice to have that even 190 centimetres," McKinnon said.

"I've always been tall, my dad's quite tall and my mum's quite tall.

"Being the youngest and being the tallest as well has helped me quite a bit. I'm definitely going up against some older and more experienced girls, but my height obviously gives me a bit of an advantage in that area."

McKinnon  started playing Australian rules only five years ago, following the lead of her younger brother at the Mosman Swans.

When she approached the club to sign up, McKinnon was informed there was no women's team so she went and recruited one with Mosman funding the girls' registration and uniforms. They now have two teams and are hoping for a third this season.

She was drafted to the Giants as a 17-year-old during  her HSC exams and is already one of the key pillars in the fledgling team.

"The presence that Erin has in game to give our mids first use of the ball is exceptional," coach Tim Schmidt said.

"To be the youngest in the competition and to have 54 hit-outs in the last two games shows her developing confidence and ability."

Meanwhile, Giants recruit Matthew De Boer is expected to miss up to six weeks with a hamstring injury, which will cost him a chance at selection for next month's first-round clash against Adelaide.

De Boer suffered the setback at training on Monday.

In better news for the club, youngsters Adam Tomlinson and Matt Flynn have penned contract extensions that will keep them at the club until the end of 2019.

Tomlinson established himself as a key member of the Giants' back six last season while Flynn is a young ruckman who played his first senior game on Saturday, a pre-season outing against West Coast in Narrandera.

The dual re-signing follows Zac Williams' decision to extend his contract last week.
