Mayor Greg Campbell thinks it’s a great side benefit of the upgrades destined for the lookout. Council staff are designing plans to flatten the top surface, and to create picnic shelters for locals and tourists’ benefit which are aimed for completion by the end of the financial year. Funding for the upgrade was valued at $142,000.
The sealed road could technically be used as an unofficial go-kart track once upgraded but Cr Campbell endorsed an organised event.
“It can lead to a competition if someone is willing to pursue the idea, we’re more than happy to hear from them,” Cr Campbell said.
“As long as some brake company sponsors it.”
Cloncurry’s chief executive Ben Milligan was listening to the interview, and it was the first he heard of the idea. Cr Campbell said his children inspired him. “I think they just watched Little Rascals,” the mayor told the chief executive.
