A good crowd came along to the Civic Centre on Thursday for the launch of Kim Maree Burton's "Whispers in the Spinifex: Memories of Mount Isa in the Making" as well as a static display of old Isa photos. The new book, resplendent in a specially designed Bret Currie cover, is result of Ms Burton’s painstaking labour of rifling through old North West Stars and other publications to the tell the stories of the people of Mount Isa.
Ms Burton said she spent the last four years on the book, which had been published in snippets each Saturday in the North West Star.
“This book has been a team effort and I could not have envisioned it without many supportive and encouraging believers in the project," Ms Burton said.
She particularly thanked Toni Neville for her unending support. “Toni’s knowledge of the history of our town, its people, its politics, has benefitted tourists, visitors and residents who have sought her advice,” she said.
