Ms Clark said they only became aware these rules still existed after news broke of a Brisbane netballer who said she was left humiliated after her skirt was deemed too short by the umpire.

"Our perspective on this, and mine personally, is that the time has passed for these rules," she said.

Last week Rachael Brown said she was discriminated against during her netball grand final because of her size, and spent the last quarter of the game "crying on court".

She filed a formal complaint with the Brisbane Netball Association and an independent tribunal is examining the incident, due to hand down its findings on March 7.

Ms Clark, who is also chief executive of the Queensland Firebirds, said the incident has highlighted the need for uniform rules at local netball associations.

"This has given us the opportunity to have conversations with members about how these rules are developed within communities," she said.

Ms Clark said all of Queensland's 80 local netball associations are allowed to develop their own rules, and this uniform rule that Ms Brown broke is one that was developed by the BNA in 2012.

The rule states: "Uniform dresses must be of sufficient length to fall below the level of uniform bike pants when a player is in a normal standing position."

"I think with the amazing diversity of lycra and activewear available we've moved passed dress length," Ms Clark said.

"Netball Queensland doesn't have those uniform stipulations, we have girls of all ages in our training programs who play matches in bike pants.

"I think they're possibly a bit outdated, our sport showcases women and girls of all shapes and sizes and that's the real strength of the sport."

Ms Clark said it was important for Ms Brown to have her case heard, and to ensure no player thought they were being discriminated against.

"We don't want any woman or man hurt or humiliated in playing netball and an investigation is underway, which is totally appropriate," she said.

She said from the facts she has about the incident, the umpire involved – a teenage girl umpiring her first seniors game – did not intend to discriminate against Ms Brown.

"It is in front of a tribunal, but at no point was it mentioned in this particular case about size or fitness level, or those individual factors, it was about a uniform specification.

"It's just an unfortunate series of events, we want to make sure tribunal runs course and Ms Brown gets to put her case forward, and obviously we're keen to see what the outcome is."

The independent tribunal is due to hand down its findings on March 7.
