The 24-year-old was brutally beaten to death with a metal fire hydrant cover by her ex-partner Lionel Patea after he ran her off the road in the Gold Coast in September 2015.

The former Bandidos bikie pleaded guilty, and was sentenced to life in prison for her murder on Monday.

Shortly after Ms Brown's death Queensland Police Service launched an investigation into the "appropriateness" of the initial response she received at the Southport Police Station.

The investigation, conducted by the Gold Coast District senior management and officer from the Ethical Standards Command, was finalised on February 17.

"As a result of the investigation, two members have been the subject of disciplinary action. The investigation was finalised and the matter closed on February 17 2017," the police said in a statement.

It comes after Ms Brown's mother Natalie Hinton criticised police for their handling of her daughter's appeal for help in the week before her death.

Tara Brown went to Southport Police Station on September 3, 2015, to apply for a domestic violence protection order against Lionel Patea.

Despite the fact Patea had "a record as long as our arms" and was "known for his violent behaviour", Ms Hinton said her daughter was turned away.

"Because Tara went a few days after the events leading up to us visiting the police station, they queried her on why she didn't come straight away," she told Channel Nine's Today.

Ms Hinton's partner Jonny Gardiner said the police could have done more that day.

"(They could have) just erred on the side of caution and you know, produced an order," Mr Gardiner said.

"It might have just been a piece of paper as far as he was concerned, but something's better than nothing."

Ms Brown was later issued with a domestic violence protection order, but it did not prevent Patea from killing her September 8, 2015.
