The clothing, homewares and furnishing store Desert Luxe based in Miles Street will open on Friday.
Mrs Ericson manages the store, her mother Rhonda Campbell supplies her previous business experience, and sister Emma Stanley buys the stock in Brisbane. They said it was a reason for them to be “creative together”.
“We don’t live close to each other so it’s nice to have a common interest that brings us together,” Mrs Ericson said.
Their focus was to bring the brands trending in Brisbane to Mount Isa, therefore trying to capitalise on people travelling to the coast for their “special shopping experience”, Mrs Campbell said.
“We were just visiting the town and we saw the need to have more retail in the town. We saw an opportunity here.
“I do hear a lot about the downturn in the mining industry but I noticed since being here this week...they’re starved for retail in the town.
“It’s good for us but we want it to be good for the town as well.”
Some of the brands that Desert Luxe stocks include In Bed linen, Bayliss Rugs, St Agni footwear, and Uashmama. Mrs Ericson said the brands’ representatives were excited to be represented in regional Australia.
“A lot of them are Australian businesses and they just don’t get contacted by country towns,” she said.
