While nearly 700,000 hard working Australians, among the lowest paid workers in the country face the prospect of having their take home pay reduced by nearly $6000 a year the Federal Member for Kennedy Bob Katter has launched a campaign to have a former Supreme Court Judge, sacked by the cabinet re-instated following the findings of the famous Fitzgerald Inquiry.

This Inquiry found that the Judge had committed acts of misconduct into tax arrangements nearly 30 years ago.
Mr Katter now wants the KAP in the Queensland Parliament to re-open the case and spend time re-visiting this matter to have this judge exonerated.
This was the Inquiry which resulted in Liberal and National Party ministers and other public figures including the then Commissioner of Police ending up in jail.
Please Mr Katter lets get our priorities right……This action by your party is cold comfort to those 700,000 workers many living in the North West who could have their "take home pay" substantially reduced under the proposals from the Fair Work Commission of which the Turnbull Federal Government has accepted and intends to implement.
I’m certain the 700,000 workers together with their families who will suffer this loss of pay would be more impressed if the Katters addressed the real issues of concern facing our community instead of trying to re-write one of the worst chapters of Queensland history
Remember the famous quote...”it’s the economy stupid”.
Contrast the actions of the Liberal, National and Katter Party MPs to those of Labor leader Bill Shorten who has introduced a Bill into the Federal Parliament to protect those workers from these proposed cuts to penalty rates.
Labor’s legislation would ensure the Fair Work Commission cannot make cuts to workers wages below the award wage.
There will be many people who believe that the FWC action will only affect those in the Retail and Hospitality Industries.
Wrong – this could be the thin end of the wedge and a future government could decide to attack penalty rates across the board unless action is taken now.
I congratulate those employers, particularly those in the North West who have publically stated that they will not be reducing the take home pay of their loyal employees.
That’s the true Australian spirit.
