Police are investigating the break-in but seek further information from the public.
Officer-in-charge of Cloncurry Police Station Brad Rix said the break and enter happened at a Sutherland Street address shortly after midnight on Tuesday, March 7.
Two people were involved in the burglary with a male distracting the senior citizen while the other thief sneaked through the back door.
The thief entering the house from the back took keys to steal the victim’s green 1998 Toyota Camry Sedan and other personal items.
“This vehicle was later located abandoned, but not damaged, on Griffiths Street,” Senior Sergeant Rix said.
“The 81-year-old victim is understandably distraught by being victimised in such a manner.
“Given the apparent planned and targeted offence committed on a vulnerable member of our town, police are very interested to hear from any witnesses, or anyone who may have any information relating to the offence or the offenders.”
I would hope that any member of our community who has any knowledge of any person involved in such a callous act would have some conscience, compassion, and perhaps some slight sense of community spirit.

Anybody with any information could contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 1800 333 000 or inform investigating officers at the Cloncurry Police Station on 4742 8888.
And Senior Sergeant Rix was certain someone had information that could help the police.
“I would hope that any member of our community who has any knowledge of any person involved in such a callous act would have some conscience, compassion, and perhaps some slight sense of community spirit, and bring this information to the attention of the police,” Senior Sergeant Rix said.
