Having missed last Saturday's JLT Community Series match against Fremantle, De Goey has been left out of the Magpies' squad for this Saturday's clash against Richmond in Moe.

It's believed De Goey's ailment is a thigh injury, although there has also been recent speculation that his toe is the issue. He has been restricted at training this week, with uncertainty surrounding his status for round one.

It is another setback for the Pies, who will also be without off-season recruit Daniel Wells - plagued by a calf issue - and forward Jamie Elliott, who hasn't played since suffering an ankle injury at training last month. A serious back injury cruelled Elliott's 2016 campaign.

In positive news for Collingwood, key defender Ben Reid is poised to play his first match of the pre-season series, picked in the squad having having worked back from off-season knee surgery. Tim Broomhead is also in contention to play his first match of the pre-season after enduring an injury-riddled 2016. Star ruckman Brodie Grundy has also been named despite a suffering a corked calf during the week.

The Tigers have picked veteran defender Bachar Houli for what would be his first JLT appearance after a recent hamstring injury. Dion Prestia and Shane Edwards are also both back after missing last week's win over Port Adelaide.

Geelong have named defenders Andrew Mackie and Cameron Guthrie in their squad to face Essendon in Bendigo on Sunday after both missed last weekend's game against Adelaide. Forward Lincoln McCarthy has also been picked despite a shoulder injury scare. Captain Joel Selwood has been picked to play in his home town after a tumultuous week in which Geelong lost their sponsorship with the TAC following his recent speeding indiscretion.

The Dons have recalled several big names for the match after fielding a weakened side a fortnight ago against Gold Coast. Captain Dyson Heppell returns to the squad, as do Zach Merrett, David Zaharakis, Mark Baguley, Orazio Fantasia, Dyson Heppell, Patrick Ambrose, James Kelly and Matt Dea. However Heath Hocking - one of the 10 players to return to the club following a drugs ban - has been overlooked.

Hawthorn have included Isaac Smith, Paul Puopolo, Shaun Burgoyne, Grant Birchall and Ben McEvoy in their squad for Sunday's match against Port Adelaide at Noarlunga in suburban Adelaide, after the quintet missed the Hawks' most recent match against North Melbourne. Veterans Luke Hodge and Josh Gibson will however both miss the game against the Power, who have rested star Chad Wingard.

St Kilda have meanwhile welcomed back a host of senior players for Sunday night's match away to Sydney in Lavington. Tom Hickey, Nick Riewoldt, Jarryn Geary, Sean Dempster, Sam Gilbert, Mav Weller and Dylan Roberton have all been named in the Saints' squad after missing last weekend's thumping win over Carlton, however Leigh Montagna will miss again following a recent calf strain.
