“The Halfling” is the debut novel of Melissa H. North and the Mount Isa Skate Park will be the venue where you can meet the author for signings, discounts and news on Friday, March 31 from 4-9pm.
Ms North said she grew up in Brisbane but has lived in Mount Isa long enough to see both her children born and raised here.
“I have always loved telling stories and so writing seemed to be the next natural thing to do.
“The Halfling took me about six months to write, and I have also began to write the sequel.
“I love the journey I am on and would like to share my creative adventures to the youth of Mount Isa and to the world.”
Ms North said the book was a fantasy novel aimed at the young adult market, which is fiction which is usually written for, published for, or marketed to adolescents and young adults from 12 to 25 and sometimes even older.
Ms North said The Halfling was about a young woman called Eliana.
“She is a halfling - part faerie, part human so not your average teenager,” she said.
“Eliana lives an unnoticed life - after all its easy to blend in living in New York City. But when tragedy strikes and her mother is taken from her prematurely in a fatal car accident, She tries to leave her past behind.”
However, a disloyal Odium-bearer succeeds in teleporting her to Grandelione – her Father's Kingdom. Grandelione is in danger.
Twin brothers, Eamon and Caelian, are sworn enemies. They are her step-brothers. Eamon, the first-born, is determined to open the portal gates to their hidden world and dominate over all races of fae taking his rightful place as king. She is drawn to his dark magic for she lives with an ancient evil curse her mother passed on to her. Evil draws its power to her– growing with each passing day.
Caelian has been elected as King-designate much to Eamon's dismay, he is intent on saving his father's kingdom and will do everything he can to succeed.
Ms North said The Halfling was a journey of self-discovery. “So if you find yourself in a world where you think you don't belong then join Eliana on her quest to find personal fulfillment while grappling with the reality of life as she knows it,” she said.
“It is a fantasy novel of self-discovery, adventure and sass.”
