Wagga trainer Trevor Sutherland is the king of Carrathool after he trained the six-race card at the once-a-year meeting.

Sutherland only took seven horses to the meeting and after Yawkey Way, Spare Parts, My Friend Albert and Benno's Boy had won, Mr Sommerville added the Carrathool Cup, leaving him on the edge of training the card and equalling the most winners on a day in NSW.

Dream On Stan started favourite and the crowd of 1200 cheered as he saluted in the last race.

"After the cup I went up and looked Dream On Stan in eye and said this is it," Sutherland said. "He had let me down a couple of times and I told him it would all be forgotten if won that race and he did."

Apprentice Megan Taylor rode five of the winners with Stacey Metcalfe getting home in the maiden on My Friend Albert.

"Megan told me after the races she was counting it as riding the card as well," Sutherland said. "She had taken a ride in the other race before I got to her and it bucked all the way to the gates and gave her all sorts of problems."

One of the stars of the day was Sutherland's 11-year-old son Leeroy, who picked up the trophies as dad and mum Stephanie looked after the horses.

"With them all winning we had one going to the swab and another to saddle, so I really only got to get the cup and the trophy after the last," Sutherland said. "Leeroy did the rest of the presentations.

"To have the family there was great and it is a day I will never forget."

McCarney confident

Wellington trainer Garry McCarney is confident the outside barrier will not stop Southern Flight in the central districts heat of the Country Championships on her home track on Sunday.

The four-year-old has won three from five, but should be unbeaten, her trainer says. She was disqualified for a positive swab after a win at Narromine in November and had no luck when second at Wellington later that month.

"This is the race we have been working towards and she gets in with only 54 kilograms after winning with big weights," McCarney said. "She is a very good mare and I'm pretty confident we will be in Sydney."
