All vehicle parts are sourced from Glencore’s Mount Isa Mines, gathered in one location at the sale yard on Maydowns Road.
Items for sale include prime movers, dump trucks, engines, light vehicles, and around 60 pallets of new surplus truck parts.
Tomkins Auctioneers specialises in plant and machinery auctioning, and has been running the Mount Isa auction for the last four or five years.
Bidding starts at nine o’clock Wednesday April 5, and there will be an inspection day on Tuesday April 4 for those wanting to view items before they buy.
The auction attracts buyers from across Australia and even overseas via an online component, says Tomkins director and auctioneer Chris Tomkins.
“We get offshore interest because we have simulcast bidding, so it’s a real time auction but you can bid on the major items online,” Mr Tomkins said.
“We’ve had clients in the past travelling from Western Australia, Hunter Valley, the Northern Territory, plus a lot of rural people as well, from all parts of the industry.”
Non industry folk are welcome to attend too, with light vehicles such as the Toyota LandCruiser popular with families.
Mr Tomkins reeled off a list of big brand names including Hallmark, Kenworth, Mack, Caterpillar, Polaris, and Toyota.
“There are 31 late model Hallmark semi side-tipping trailers and 21 dollies, Polaris Rangers, forklifts, 90 Toyota light vehicles.
“It’s transitional stuff that’s still got good life in it, which is good for contractors. Some of it will get stripped down for parts which is a big thing,” he said.
Underground machinery for sale includes loaders, trucks, forklifts, drill rigs and skid steer loaders which a “handy for everyone”, Mr Tomkins said.
He said it’s the biggest auction of its kind in the region, giving a bit of a boost to the local economy.
“It’s good that Glencore does this, it gives the opportunity for locals to purchase all this equipment,” Mr Tomkins said.
“We’re probably bringing over 150 buyers into Mount Isa so all the motels will fill up, airlines will book out, so it’s good for everybody,” he said.
