The 29 year old, is the second furthest competitor travelling to this year’s South32 Julia Creek Triathlon.
“This will be my second year out there, last year a friend lived in Julia Creek so I decided to take the trip out to visit,” she said.
“This year we’re going out again to compete and have some fun. Last year I was on a support team but didn’t compete and I felt a bit lazy. So this year I’m competing.”
Due to work commitments Ms Britten is flying out to Townsville and will then make the trip by car along the Overlander’s Way.
“It makes an 18 hour trip into a six hour trip, so it’s really not that long when you think about it! Much better than it would have been,” she said.
“I’m heading straight out to Julia Creek from Townsville, if I had more time I would love to explore a little more. Last year we drove from Alice Springs, and that was an experience!”
Ms Britten spoke about her past experience at the Festival, citing its fun atmosphere as the biggest draw cards for her to return this year.
“It was a huge weekend, it was just awesome that was the best fun I’ve had in a long time,” she said.
“We did the full day, we went to the race in the morning, the horse races and the we did the bull ride that night.”
“I didn’t get to see much on the Sunday because I was a little under the weather but it doesn’t matter, it was still worth it. It was grand time.”
President of Julia Creek Dirt n Dust Festival Stephen Malone said welcoming people from other regional areas was one of the best parts of the event.
“It’s a testament to the Festival and to Julia Creek that people want to travel, even from the furthest reaches of the country, to participate and experience the weekend,” he said.
“It’s so great to hear that people are supporting the event from all over Australia and we welcome them into our community here, that’s what this whole weekend is about. The Dirt n Dust Festival is such an iconic event, and it’s for everyone to enjoy - it should not be missed.”
