After all this time and after all these wins, Chris Waller is still amazed by Winx's performances on the track and he is only just starting to get used to her being lauded off it as well.

After her 16th win in a row in Saturday's George Ryder Stakes at Rosehill, the crowd reacted in a manner that is only reserved for giants of the turf. For Waller, the wondermare is the horse of lifetime. She caps the trainer's standing as the very best of his craft in the country.

The wry New Zealander often wears his heart on his sleeve and he was, once again, bursting with pride on Saturday. Waller prefers to let his horses do their talking for him on the track but, with Winx, it sometimes appears even he finds it hard to comprehend what has just happened.

"When you get a horse like Winx, it just breaks all the rules," he said. "She amazed me. You expect her to win but not like that."

On Saturday, the margin was 7-?? lengths, a victory that sits alongside her eight-length victory in last year's Cox Plate as a show of domination. Winx is not just winning. she is crushing her rivals, which are among the best horses in the country.

Winx's achievements are such that she is now resonating well beyond the world of racing. Waller admits he is getting asked more and more regularly by members of the public whether he is the man who trains Winx and he has a keen understanding of what her winning streak means beyond the insular boundaries of the sport.

"Black Caviar has opened the public up to what a champion horse is and we are lucky to come after her," Waller said. "Everyday people understand a champion when it keeps winning. They don't understand when they are horse of the year and are beaten three times. She keeps it going [the winning streak] and it keeps getting bigger."

But for all her fame, Winx can still find the anonymity of a beach next to the airport for a morning-after recovery. On Sunday, she pranced through the shallows, lifting her powerful back legs out of the water, as the preparations start ahead of her next race, the Queen Elizabeth Stakes on the final day of The Championships at Randwick on April 8. That race is the ultimate target for Winx's autumn preparation and Waller hinted she might be even better on that day.

"The further she gets into her prep the more serious she gets," he said. "I would say we have only screwed her right down for her two Cox Plates, we look after her. That's a big part of keeping her happy."

Jockey Hugh Bowman said after the Ryder Stakes win that he believes she is at the peak of powers and revealed his colleagues in the jockeys room are in awe of her.

"She is a freak," said Glyn Schofield, who rode runner-up Le Romain on Saturday. "I gave a good kick, which would win most races, except when something like Winx is chasing you and then you watch her disappear."

While Winx has given Waller his champion, he still has a stable full of horses to get ready for other races during the carnival.

He will look for further group 1 success at Rosehill on Saturday with fillies Dawn Wall and Foxplay, which are likely to contest favouritism in the Vinery Stud Stakes, while stayers Who Shot Thebarman, Libran and perhaps Grand Marshal will be his BMW runners

Dawn Wall gets to a group 1 at only her fifth start in her first preparation after winning her past three, including the Kembla Grange Classic. Foxplay has three group 2 victories including beating the boys in the Phar Lap Stakes, a race Winx won, at her last start.

"There is not much between them," Waller said. "Dawn Wall has got the scope to improve and we have always thought she would get better as she got out to this trip. Foxplay has done everything right and probably deserves her chance at a group 1 and will be hard to beat."
