Queensland Urban Utilities were called in just after 7am after a car crashed into the shopping centre fire hydrant.

The flooding caused a major traffic headache for commuters, however police have since reopened all northbound lanes and traffic is flowing smoothly.

A car has crashed into a fire hydrant outside Westfield Garden City, causing a headache for motorists.

Northbound lanes along Logan Road at Upper Mount Gravatt are flooded after a vehicle crashed into an above-ground shopping centre fire hydrant just after 7am, according to Queensland Urban Utilities.

Police were directing all northbound traffic into a southbound lane as QUU crew were assisting to help turn the water off.

Motorists heading north into Brisbane's CBD can also expect delays after a crash early Tuesday morning along the Riverside Expressway.

The two-car crash near the Elizabeth Street exit has been cleared however northbound traffic remains banked up to Upper Mount Gravatt.

Those travelling along the Gateway Motorway southbound from Bald Hills to Boondall can also expect delays.

Motorists are urged to take care when driving in the rain by turning on headlights and allowing extra travel time.
