ABC youth radio station Triple J has announced it is taking its 2017 One Night Stand to Mount Isa.

One Night Stand is a free and all-ages annual event that goes to regional towns across Australia.

Tuesday morning Triple J’s breakfast presenters introduced Mount Isa Mayor Joyce McCulloch who said she was “ecstatic” to announce Mount Isa would host this year’s event on Saturday, April 22.

“We are a very proud town and we are a beautiful and unique region,” Cr McCulloch told national listeners.

Cr McCulloch said there was a lot of musical talent in town.

“They will love this, the line up is brilliant,” she said.

This year’s bill includes bands San Cisco, Tash Sultana, the Smith St Band and Thundamentals.

It will also feature the Triple J Unearthed competition winner from the Mount Isa area. If you want a shot at playing at the One Night Stand, upload your songs to triple j Unearthed before midnight on Sunday April 2. The winner will be announced on Tuesday April 4.

The concert is free and will be held at Tony White Oval, Mount Isa.

ABC North West Queensland station manager Andrew Saunders agreed this would be great for Mount Isa and said they had been helping Triple J organise the event.

“It’s an exciting event and a lot to organise with four bands, crews stage and lighting coming to a remote area,” Mr Saunders said.

Triple J’s location info on Mount Isa said the town was one of the most remote locations they’ve ever held the One Night Stand.

Based on previous events a crowd of four to six thousand people are expected to attend.

The event will be a collaboration between the ABC and Mount Isa City Council.

Mayor McCulloch said through accommodation, transport, food, beverages and entertainment, One Night Stand would provide a welcome boost to Mount Isa.

"The economic stimulus that's going to come to the community [is] just fantastic," she said.

"And what an opportune time to come to Mount Isa. We've had great rainfall so we're looking a little bit lusher than what we were and it's going to be a party atmosphere to inject into the community."
