Canberra have a five-day turnaround this week ahead of their trip to Brisbane to face the Broncos at on Friday night and will have just one training session before the massive clash.

It's in stark contrast to the Broncos, who have an eight-day break following their narrow loss to the Melbourne Storm on Thursday.

The Broncos have long had a monopoly on Friday night football, which has now been expanded to Thursday night this season.

They play all but five of the opening 20 rounds on either of those nights.

It's due to the current broadcast deal allowing Channel Nine to decide which games it will show and at what times.

The Raiders play just two Friday night games over the same period, with no games on Thursdays. That's expected to change next season.

"We're hopeful once the NRL takes back control of the scheduling next year ... there can be more equality around that," Raiders chief executive Don Furner said.

"No doubt, despite what the Broncos may or may not say, having [their game] almost regularly on Friday nights is a lot easier for their scheduling.

"No doubt they've got a big advantage this week so we just have to live with it. But having said that, we're happy to be on Channel Nine."

An NRL spokesman said they would look to further minimise the number of five-day breaks next season, with the abolishment of Monday night footy having already reduced them about 50 per cent this year compared with 2016.

The Broncos have one five-day turnaround - following their round 19 clash against the Newcastle Knights - when they face Canterbury, who will be coming off the bye.

"I think they even out over the course of the season, but clearly we're also restricted very much by the choices of the TV stations, who basically determine the days of the games," the spokesman said.

"We aim to change that next year when we take control of the schedules so these sort of anomalies hopefully will be less common from next year onwards."

The Raiders players weren't using it as an excuse with five-eighth Blake Austin saying he'd play every couple of days if he could.

He still remembers when he was a kid and would play as many games as he could every weekend.

"I'd play three games in a week if they asked me to. It wasn't long ago we were kids and playing three and four games on a Saturday backing up for any team you could," Austin said.

"For myself it's not a very big issue and we just go out there and play a game of footy."

Meanwhile, Furner thought the introduction of independent doctors at all NRL games was unnecessary, but he would be happy to comply if the NRL decided they were.

Furner had full faith in the Raiders' medical staff and said their decision was final when it came to any potential concussion cases.

Three clubs - Gold Coast, St George Illawarra and Newcastle - were issued with breach notices after round three and slugged with fines totalling $350,000 for allegedly failing to comply with concussion guidelines.

The introduction of independent doctors would take any decision out of the hands of the clubs.

"I don't know that it needs to [be changed], I could be wrong. Our club's very comfortable with our medical staff and our strength and conditioning staff," Furner said.

"I'm happy with what we've got, but if they decide to go with that for the look of it then that's the way it goes and we would accept it."
