The Council engaged advertising agency 360 Cre8ive who also help market Dirt N Dust to generate what they called a “captivating film rich in authenticity, humour and passion”.
The video runs for four and a half minutes and is introduced by McKinlay mayor Belinda Murphy who shows off the sights of Julia Creek, McKinlay, Kynuna and rural areas to viewers.
Mayor Murphy promotes direct flights to Julia Creek via Rex Airlines and good road transport links by car and Bus Queensland.
Then executive assistant Amy Tinning takes over to give a plug to tourist sites such as Combo Waterhole where Banjo Paterson and the exploits of early explorers Duncan Macintyre, John McKinlay and Ludwig Leichhardt with a funny interlude explaining “Burke and Wills never came through here”.
The shire’s famous pubs also get a mention, Kynuna’s Blue Heeler Hotel and McKinlay’s Walkabout Creek Hotel as did accommodation options such as Dirt N Dust’s tent city with a special mention for the taxi van marked “Juber” for Julia Creek’s Uber.
Cattle producer Edwina Hick from Argyle station told viewers they were looking forward to providing dinner prior to awards night under the stars in their cattle yards.
If selected, Julia Creek would host the awards workshop in the town’s newly renovated $2.2m hall and council announced its intention to open new facilities at the Dirt N Dust venue on the night of the awards.
They would hold the tourism AGM at the Bill Busuttin community centre while the Julia Creek Civic Centre would be transformed into a Commonwealth Games themed awards night.
At the end of the video a group of locals stand with the mayor to exclaim that for this year’s awards “we know just the place”.
The town chosen to host the awards will be named on March 31 and the awards will be held from November 2-5 in the winning host town.
