The Green Machine faces Bennett's NRL club, the Brisbane Broncos, at Suncorp Stadium on Friday night in a massive clash of two premiership contenders.

Hodgson is one of two England internationals in the Raiders team, along with second-rower Elliott Whitehead.

The pair were an integral part of Bennett's Four Nations campaign last year and would be certain starters for the Old Dart in the Test against Samoa at Campbelltown on May 6.

Hodgson said if he was fit, he'd play - and he could come up against Canberra teammates Sia Soliola and Junior Paulo.

The Raiders star rake said it would be the perfect tune up for the England team ahead of this year's World Cup.

"Hopefully I'm called upon, it'll be great to play in. It's obviously a huge honour to represent your country no matter what time of year or who it's against," Hodgson said.

"It'd be an honour to be called up. It'll also be a great test against the Samoans and over here as well it'll be good for the English boys to come over and get a feel for it.

"I've not spoken to Stick [Raiders coach Ricky Stuart] yet. I suppose you just get a week before the game and see how the body's feeling, but as long as you're fit and ready to go I'll always put my hand up for my country."

But he won't be using the trip to Brisbane to catch up with Bennett, who he played under for the first time at last year's Four Nations.

Instead, both will be focused on getting their second win of the season.

"Throughout the year my job's for the Raiders and countries aside I'll be going up there looking to get my prep right for the game, get my recovery right after today - we've obviously got a short turnaround - and just concentrating on the Raiders," Hodgson said.

"I won't be thinking about international stuff. I'm sure Wayne'll be exactly the same and just concentrating on his boys and trying to get them ready for the game."

The Raiders have struggled at Suncorp in recent years and have just one win since 2004.

Canberra captain Jarrod Croker was the only remaining member of the Green Machine from that victory in 2010.

He couldn't put the record down to anything, but felt their experience in front of big crowds at the back end of last season would help them in front of what will be a rabid Queensland crowd.

The Raiders charged into the NRL finals in 2016 in front of big crowds in Canberra and Melbourne.

"They all help, every one helps. There's going to be a big crowd there and I'm sure the boys won't get too overawed about it, but at the same time they'll enjoy it and hopefully feed off the big crowd," Croker said.

Broncos halfback Ben Hunt said both he and five-eighth Anthony Milford would look to counter the size of the Raiders forward pack by running at them.

But it's not a tactic that worries the Green Machine at all - they expect that to be a tactic from every team they face.

It was something reigning premiers Cronulla did to good effect in their big win over the Raiders in round two.

But Hodgson said they'd be prepared for the Broncos.

"Most teams will probably try and do that to us anyway. The Broncos are the only ones who have come out and said it. Most teams I'm sure that's their game plan," he said.

"We have big boys. That was a lot of teams' strategy last year and I'm sure it has been this year. We've got big mobile boys that have got good engines as well.

"If we stick to our defensive strategies and we just worry about ourselves and our own defensive roles and be accountable for your actions.

"Team's can try and throw what they like, but if you're good defensively then you should handle it."
