The dual-threat footballer was still competing in the W-League finals series for Canberra United when the Adelaide Crows kick-started their run to the inaugural AFLW grand final.

United lost a heartbreaking extra-time semi-final against Melbourne City and McCormick is determined to avenge that pain with an AFLW premiership on Saturday against the Brisbane Lions on the Gold Coast.

"I've played in the past two W-League semis but I've never played in a grand final and I'm so excited and thankful I finally get to have my grand final experience with Adelaide," McCormick said.

"The semi loss with United was devastating and as hard as it was, this is a whole different kettle of fish. This this whole week has been amazing and I just can't wait to get out there."

In the decider the Crows will boast a strong Canberra presence with coach Bec Goddard and players McCormick, Talia Radan, Rhiannon Metcalfe and Heather Anderson.

McCormick will play a pivotal role in the forward line if Adelaide causes a boilover and hands Brisbane its first loss of the season.

"For me it's not really focusing on the end result and thinking 'oh god we've got to win', but rather focusing on the little things and doing my job," McCormick said.

"It's a big challenge coming into this granny with how to handle the nerves and pressure and mental side of things, but I know everyone out there will be giving it a red hot crack."

There is a slice of history up for grabs in Queensland as the teams battle for the first AFWL flag and McCormick is set to come up against her former teammates.

"I played for Brisbane in the exhibition match last year so I know most of the girls in the team, but we won't be friends once we cross that line on Saturday," McCormick said.

Adelaide enjoyed an average home crowd of 8878 this season, with 12,108 pouring into Norwood Oval in round five for their three-point loss against Brisbane.

"Playing in front of 10,000 people has been blowing my mind, it's crazy. When we played Brisbane at Norwood there were 12,000 people there. Running through banner I had goosebumps," McCormick said.

"It was just incredible and nobody will ever be able to take that feeling away from me, I'm so grateful I got to experience it.

"I know myself and plenty of the other girls didn't expect it to be this big. This whole experience has just blown me out of the water and given me a whole new look on professional sports.

"I've learnt so much in eight weeks, I don't want it to end because I think I'll have withdrawals, it's been nothing short of amazing."

It has been an action-packed 12 months for McCormick, winning a soccer premiership in Iceland's top flight with Stjarnan, before backing for her dual-code summer.

"It has been a massive whirlwind, playing and living abroad helped fine-tune me into the young woman I am becoming," McCormick said.

"Then I loved coming back and playing for Canberra, before getting straight into footy, it's been a bit non-stop but I wouldn't have it any other way."

McCormick won't be returning to Iceland and will weigh up her options after the AFLW season, but said she is keen to play for United again next season.

It has been a groundbreaking summer for women's sport in Australia with AFLW, W-League, WNCL, WNBL and Super Netball players all securing landmark deals.

"The movement that has happened for women's sport has gone beyond anything we've ever really experienced, it's been massive," McCormick said.

"Cameras at the airport and going to schools where the kids look up to you with those idolising eyes, it's just insane and nothing I ever expected to come my way.

"AFLW has brought women's sport to the attention of everybody and it's awesome everyone is getting behind us and that we're getting the respect we deserve.

"The sky's the limit. If we keep fighting for it we will get the pay rises that we deserve and it's only going to get bigger and better, there is no stopping it now."
