Speaking about tourism opportunities in north Queensland on Friday, Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said US tourism operators told her they wanted to spend big bucks on a holiday Down Under.

"They've had people saying, 'We'd like to spend $200,000 to take our family from the US to spend a month in Australia, can you put a package together?' " she said.

"And they're scrambling to put that together."

To help our cashed-up friends from North America, we've created a handy guide on how to blow more than 2.5 times the average Australian annual salary on a glitzy Queensland holiday. For simplicity, we've looked at the costs for two adults:

• Stay at Lizard Island on the Great Barrier Reef for about $4990 a night in The Pavillion. Spend two weeks for $69,860.
• Explore the Great Barrier Reef on a private charter yacht with Whitsunday Bliss for five nights. Spend $17,500.
• Book a table for two at Tamarind restaurant in Cairn's Reef Hotel Casino, order the seven-course tasting menu with matching wines at $160 per person, then go wild and chuck in a couple of bottles of Penfolds Grange at $1100 a pop. Spend $2520 on dinner.
• The Sheraton Grand Mirage Resort at Port Douglas costs $2250 a night for the Presidential Suite. Spend a week for $15,750.
• Fly with GBR Helicopters to an idyllic sand cay for a picnic and snorkel in paradise among the coral reefs at $899 per person. Spend $1798.
• Book in two people for a three-hour spa treatment, The Dreaming, at Peppers Beach Club and Spa at $444 each. Spend $888.
• Spend three nights on Orpheus Island, north of Townsville, in the North Beachfront Villa for $3000 per night. Spend $9000.
• Go shopping at T Galleria in Cairns at Dior, Chanel, Gucci and Prada. Spend however much you like, let's say $20,000.
• Have lunch at Nu Nu in Palm Cove. You both order the mud crab dish at $180 each and sip on a margarita at $18.50. Spend $397.
• You're getting exhausted from all the luxury, so book in for another spa treatment for two at Alamanda Palm Cove by Lancemore. The five-hour Palm Cove Escape costs $550. Spend $1100.
• Have a chauffeur-driven private car for three hours per day for 30 days. Spend $12,000.
• Tee off at three iconic golf courses in one day - Palmer Sea Reef Golf Course, Cooktown Golf Links and Paradise Palms Golf Course - by hiring a charter chopper with Nautilus Aviation, including gourmet meals. Spend $1650.
• Fly a bit further south and head to Qualia resort, on Hamilton Island. The recover and rejuvenate spa package costs $1200 and you book for two people. Spend $2400.
• You have $45,137 in change for other meals and expenses.

Queensland Tourism Industry Council chief executive Daniel Gschwind said the Cairns region was a leader in the space of luxury products.

"The Mirage up in Port Douglas was one of the very early integrated resorts that Australia saw and certainly of an international standard and was very prominently positioned," he said.

"We can regain some of the innovative and leading spirit, we certainly have the natural attractions to go with it - the reef, the rainforest, the Cape."

Mr Gschwind said people could put together a trip "literally of a lifetime" with $200,000.

"I think most operators, once they recovered from the surprise that somebody wants to spend that much on a family trip, they would be more than willing to make provisions for that."

Mr Gschwind said there were a lot of operators who could take travellers in "very great comfort" to the most spectacular places.

"There are plenty of dots on this huge map that would be absolute jewels in anyone's itinerary," he said.

It comes as Ms Palaszczuk told an American Chamber of Commerce in Australia breakfast that travel operators told her: "Don't send us any more flights at the moment, we actually need more product, we need more hotels built."

"There is a growing demand for people to have luxury experiences and it's something that Queensland is lacking at the moment," Ms Palaszczuk said.
