Opposition coach Bec Goddard, reflecting on her Adelaide team meeting Brisbane three weeks ago, turned to Nelson Mandela.

"Did we have the match-ups right against Brisbane the first time, one-on-one? Probably not," the Crows' boss said, referring to a three-point loss in round five.

"Nelson Mandela said, 'I don't lose, I win or learn'.

"Brisbane likes to roll back into our attacking half and drop all of their numbers as quickly as possible and they're very well drilled at it.

"So, we want to go with the fastest team possible available to play."

Starcevich, who has guided the Lions to an undefeated season thus far - though they came perilously close to a blemish in drawing against Carlton last week - forecast another very tight contest in the re-match.

"[The focus is] getting in hard to win the contested ball and being really diligent about where your opponent is at all times," he said on the Gold Coast on Friday.

"It will boil down to some desperate acts here and there.

"The players have alluded to the fact that last time we played, it could have gone either way."

The Lions' brains trust thinks last week's draw on the road will do the AFLW-competition leaders good; sharpening them for the pinnacle clash.

Adelaide, in contrast, were strong winners against Collingwood in a match also played in Melbourne on Sunday.

The geographically split Crows camps - nine players on the list are based in Darwin so have commuted long distances for the two month season and 'attended' team meetings by Skype - united on the Gold Coast on Thursday.

The plan has brought them together a full day earlier than for other games this year.

"They [would have been] sitting around at home or work thinking about the game anyway, so we thought it was best to get them together to do that," Goddard said.

Both sides are unchanged though Adelaide has an injury query with Courtney Cramey - concussed last week - that Goddard left hanging publicly.

"Courtney is doing all the right things with her recovery, [but] as you know with concussion, there's not much you can do," she said.

"You've just got to wait, do the tests and hope the result comes up your way."

The AFL introduced additional time-on rules for the grand final that are expected to extend quarters by as much as three minutes each.

The clock will be stopped after all scores, and when the ball is out of bounds, on Saturday. In all previous AFLW games time-on was only called after goals and significant injury delays.
