The Raiders now have one win from their opening four games, but two of their losses have been by a solitary point.

They have an eight-day turnaround before hosting the Parramatta Eels at Canberra Stadium on Saturday and will be sweating on the fitness of star hooker Josh Hodgson (chest), although Austin said the England international was a "tough little bugger" and expected him to play.

An update on Hodgson is expected on Monday, with the club also deliberating on whether they will challenge Elliott Whitehead's grade two tripping charge at the judiciary.

Whitehead faces a one-match ban if he takes the early guilty plea, and could miss two weeks if he fights the charge and loses.

Austin said while it was disappointing to be on the wrong-end of another nailbiter, he was "reasonably happy with most of the match".

The Raiders looked dead and buried halfway through the second half, but fought back to level the scores against the Broncos through Austin's brilliant running try.

Fightbacks have become something of a trademark for the Raiders in recent seasons and Austin was confident if they recreated that effort then they would turn their record around.

"It's what we've been doing for two or three years now. It's a shame we couldn't hang a little bit tougher in the middle there and come home strong off the back of a 2-all scoreline," he said.

"The effort was there and we went all the way with a real quality side. If we can play like that week-in, week-out we'll win more games than we lose.

"We're going to have to pick a few things that we're going to have to get better at and improve next week."

But the Raiders suffered from handling errors, especially in the second half, ending up with 15 for the match in tricky conditions.

Austin felt their attacking brand of footy meant errors would always be part of their game.

The flipside of that is the moments of brilliance they can produce in attack and an ever developing steely defence.

Their ability to score quickly was on full display on Friday, scoring two brilliant tries in a matter of minutes, but so was their troubles holding on to the pill.

But Austin didn't think it was a case of a couple of errors proving the difference.

"It's not how we'll be looking at it. We were well and truly in a game of footy. Errors are something that are going to happen when we play the brand of footy that we do," he said.

"We've just got to keep backing up in defence and probably do a bit more with the ball in that middle stage rather than waiting until we're chasing points."

The Green Machine faces an Eels outfit that's coming off back-to-back losses, including a 20-6 defeat to the Cronulla Sharks on Saturday.

Like the Raiders, the Eels also produced plenty of errors (17) in their loss, despite the return of their star playmaker Corey Norman from a slight hamstring strain.

Norman and Eels five-eighth Clint Gutherson go head-to-head with Austin and his halves partner Aidan Sezer.

Austin was expecting it to be another tough battle.

"They're a quality side with two good halves that are playing well at the moment. It's going to be a tough one," he said.
