The corrugated iron roof, like a half-peeled tuna can sprouting tree branches, is only the start of John Andersen's problems.

His small rented Bowen shack, a hundred metres or so off the beachfront, is unliveable, drenched, battered and smelling.
The 78-year-old former cane truck driver has nowhere to go.
"Maybe back to Proserpine," he says, hopeful the floodwaters cutting the Bruce Highway will subside soon so he can head even closer to ground zero for the storm that destroyed his home.
His son lives there but he hasn't called him yet, unsure of how bad the damage will be.
Mr Andersen stands staring out one of two big front windows, amazingly unbroken in Cyclone Debbie's violence, his bushy bearded chin (he says he needs it shaved off) resting in one hand.
Mr Andersen's front door doesn't open anymore, falling off its hinges and blocked by sodden carpet in the front room.
About a foot of water surrounds the three-room home, with bits of random fence in the front yard and broken branches everywhere.
It's far worse inside.
The whole place is soaked, water still dripping from his bedroom ceiling, where the roof remains, in at least half a dozen spots.
Lino peels off the small hallway, exposing wooden boards dank with the wet.
What's left inside mostly wasn't in the best condition before Debbie's visit but the one thing Mr Andersen wanted to save, a newish flatscreen TV, is also gone.
"It's been through one too many," Mr Andersen says.
He wasn't there when this happened, thankfully having been evacuated to the town's cyclone shelter on Monday night.
On Wednesday morning, he parked his car as close as he could without flooding, more than 30 metres away on the other side of the road.
Asked about his thoughts as he walked back inside, Mr Andersen doesn't offer too much.
"I can't tell you. You can't print it," he said, before offering a sanitised version.
"Oh my god."
Eyes wide, with nowhere to go, he still manages to worry about others.
"I'm happy so far that no one's been hurt or killed, you know," he says.
"That's what the main thing is. The next thing is, you can always build a new home, or car, you can't build a new life."
