Gold Coast fitness junkie Doug Black decided to walk, run and cycle an 1880 kilometre journey to Mount Isa after seeing footage of cyclone Debbie wreaking havoc in northern Queensland.
Mr Black said he’s looking for donations which will go towards a community group that needs funds for relief efforts.
“Tropical cyclone Yasi was a powerful and destructive cyclone that tore through North Central Queensland in 2011, and now they are getting hit again with Cyclone Debbie.”
“I strongly believe and live by the motto ‘pay it forward’.
Mr Black originally posted a photo on the Triple J Facebook page when they announced the One Night Stand location, saying he was going to walk from the Gold Coast.
The breakfast producers then got in touch to ask if he was serious.
“I said I’ll give it a go, and in one week I got sponsors on board including a support vehicle,” he said.
“There’s been a lot of community support for this once in a lifetime opportunity.”
The trip has hit a bit of a snag this week with Doug’s only support member pulling out, and he is currently in Roma looking for a new driver.
