The Richmond 4B Rodeo will be held in memory of 20 year old Damon McCoy, who was tragically killed in a single vehicle accident at Croydon in July 2016.

Son of Mike and Noeline McCoy, Rainscourt, Richmond, Damon will be remembered for his active community and sporting spirit.

“He use to come down and help the rodeo all the time and was a really good young fella,” Rodeo President Luke Wharton said.

“Damon use to compete in the bronc ride so we have created a Memorial Second Division Bronc Ride event, shield and buckle for him. 

“It is to celebrate the short life of this young cowboy and we hope to continue this event annually.”

The Richmond 4B Rodeo will feature bulls, bronc, bareback, barrel race. With a poddy ride and barrel race for the children.

“It is a rough stock event for the whole family. It should have a good turn out with competitors travelling from Mount Isa to Townsville, Normanton to Emerald,” Mr Wharton said.

“It is a good show for our local area with a total of $10,000 up for grabs.”

The Richmond 4B Rodeo has been held over a 10 year period and Mr Wharton said it was growing each year.

“We are expecting a high number of nominations from locals and beyond, with some of Damon’s rodeo mates travelling to Richmond to participate in the event.

“This is a great bush event with rodeo entertainment, home style cooking, live music, bar, free camping area, all bathroom facilities and free entry.”

Nominations for the Richmond 4B Rodeo are still open through RSA until April 16.
