The outsider of John O'Shea's trio in the Doncaster went to the front and was never challenged, delivering O'Shea his 10th group 1 for Godolphin in three years and the sixth from a horse that had been sent from Europe by John Ferguson.

It is the benefit of being able to parachute in horses from around the world. The spring had been a show of the power of the Godolphin European team from Charlie Appleby and this was another reminder of the class of horses from the other side of the world.

Even though he was a $31 chance, It's Somewhat's success wasn't a surprise to the trainer, who recalled he had run third as a pacemaker in an Eclipse Sakes.

"We knew he was going super and thought he would run first four," O'Shea said. "He worked great with Hauraki during the week and ran up to it. He is that sort of horse that gets into a rhythm and is very hard to run down.

"John Ferguson can find us a good horse and it is good to get another big race win for him."

It's Somewhat rolled to the front and Zac Purton remembered what he had seen in the videos when he was doing his form for the Doncaster.

"Once I got there I thought there was no use backing it off. I let go through his gears. I saw what JMac [James McDonald] did on him in the Craven Plate," Purton said. "He has got a nice action and all he wanted to do is extend, extend.

"As long he is in his rhythm, I just keep happy and he kept me happy."

Purton was still happy on the post as he had a half-length to spare from Happy Clapper and it was 3-1/2 lengths back Sense Of Occasion.

It gave O'Shea a third Doncaster victory but he was also happy with the runs of Hauraki, which ran fifth from back in the field, and Spectroscope, which finished 10th.

"Hauraki has actually gone as good as the winner considering where he got in the field," O'Shea said. "He will go to Queensland with the winner.

"We knew before the race that Spectroscope was a bit flat, but he is going to be right."

It was a day when you needed to be at the front and near the fence and It's Somewhat ticked both boxes. He gave a kick at the top of the straight and opened up a gap topping the rise and there was only one challenger, Happy Clapper. He loomed and veteran Randwick trainer Pat Webster felt his hopes rise.

"When he got out, I thought he was just going to go past him, but the other thing had a soft lead and we just couldn't get him," Webster said.

"Second not to bad two years in a row, but I thought we had it."

Godolphin sent their trio to Queensland, but Webster is happy to take on Winx in the Queen Elizabeth Stakes next week.

"I can't see any reason why he won't go next week. He did it last year and had a much harder preparation," Webster said. "If he pulls up well, we will go and take on a champion."
