Held at the Cloncurry Equestrian Centre on Friday evening, competitors travelled from across north west Queensland to attend.
Cloncurry Stockman's Challenge and Campdraft nominations secretary, Kim Robertson, said the event was a great way to start the season.
“This was our first draft of the year so I think it went well,” she said.
“The cattle ran well but the riders had to work hard for a full score.
“We had a great atmosphere, the crowd was good and I think everyone enjoyed themselves.
“All of our recent upgrades were commented on including shade sales, fenced off kids area, tie up rails and grassed and plants area.”
The Novice winner was Ben Stanger on Rosay with a total of 260 points.
Second went to Will Durkin on Tempo with a total of 244 points.
Equal third went to Marcus Curr on Teaspoon and Will Durkin on Diva with 174 points.
Fifth went to Marcus Curr on Pink with a total of 172 points.
Equal sixth was awarded to Thomas Mills on Tuscany Girl, Grant Telford on Bwana and Tom Webster on Twist with 171 points.
The Highest Cut out was awarded to Peter Hacon on Memphis Blue with 23 points.
A Youth Clinic was also held over the weekend to encourage interested campdrafters to become involved in the sport.
“The two day clinic facilitated by Ben Stanger and Brooke Fitzgerald was successful, we had a lot of kids enroll,” Ms Robertson said.
“We wanted to get the kids involved and teach them things they might not learn watching mum and dad on the sideline.
“It was good for the children to learn from riders who can draft successfully and take into account the skills they use to win drafts, including how to cut, track and move the beast around the course.”
