This year’s Mount Isa Health Expo will be held at the Civic Centre on Friday 25 and Saturday 26 August.
The expo showcases a line up of local celebrities, healthy food demonstrations, live performances and interactive displays.
Opening the expo is an industry only morning from 10am to noon on Friday August 25.
The public is welcome to attend the expo from noon to 6pm on Friday and 9am to 1pm on Saturday August 26.
A working group of the region’s major health providers has been planning this event since December, including North West Hospital and Health Service (NWHHS), Western Queensland Primary Health Network (WQPHN), Mount Isa Centre for Rural and Remote Health (MICRRH), North and West Remote Health (NWRH) and Gidgee Healing.
NWHHS Chief Executive, Lisa Davies Jones said in addition to support from the major health service providers, the expo would also benefit from sponsorship through the Glencore Mount Isa Mines Community Assistance Program.
“We are thrilled to have some financial support from Glencore Mount Isa Mines once again, with a $5500 grant from their Community Assistance Program, which will certainly help make the Health Expo even bigger and better than in 2015,” Ms Davies Jones said.
General Manager for Health, Safety, Environment and Community for Glencore North Queensland, Maryann Wipaki, said the results of the 2016 Glencore Community Attitudes Survey showed that increased access to improved health and medical facilities was a high priority for our community.
“These results help us to ensure we’re targeting initiatives that address the areas of interest within our community,” Ms Wipaki said.
Ms Davies Jones acknowledged it was difficult to get a date and venue that didn’t clash with other events in the region.
“We know this is a slight clash with the Camooweal Drovers’ Festival, but with so many exciting events and so many entertainment acts and shows scheduled for the year we have had a great deal of difficulty finding a venue and date that is available; so short of having our Health Expo near Christmas, this was our best suited option.”
“Hopefully people will be able to fit both events into this busy weekend.”
The Exhibitor and Sponsorship prospectus for the 2017 Mount Isa Health Expo will be available soon, with a range of display booths available for health, wellbeing and fitness providers.
