The club didn't even wait 24 hours before canvassing opinion on how to avoid jockeys in future being unaware a race has been abandoned by stewards during its running, as was the case when Almoonqith broke down in the early stages of the $2 million event on Saturday.

The two-mile race has been rescheduled for April 22 at Randwick and will be open to new entries after a meeting of ATC and Racing NSW officials on Monday.

The ATC is determined to explore whether it can install a lighting or siren system at three or four different points around the track in lieu of a drama-charged running of the event, which had a clerk of the course and barrier officials screaming at jockeys the race had been called off as they approached the 800-metre mark.

The project would require plenty of planning given the cabling that would need to be laid, and there are other design challenges, not least the rebuild of the Kensington track.

Canterbury is the only Sydney track that has a lighting system used to alert riders when a no-race order has been issued. It can only be used at night meetings during the summer.

Racing NSW will consult the Australian Jockeys Association on a system that its favours after starting a review of the Sydney Cup no-race on Monday.

"The confusion centres around what actual advice was given to the jockeys," Racing NSW chief steward Marc van Gestel said.

"It appears they heard the call, but they misinterpreted what the call was and we need some surety there. Whether that's a combination of sirens or something else we'll have a look at it."

The Warwick Farm meeting scheduled for April 22 will now be transferred to Randwick, which will also host the Anzac Day meeting just three days later.

Horses that weren't among the original acceptors will be able to nominate for the race, but those that started on Saturday will be given ballot preference.

The amended Sydney Cup date will force top Sydney jockey Corey Brown, who was first past the post on Godolphin's European-trained Polarisation of the horses that were ridden out to the finish of the no-race, to try to shuffle his suspension dates.

Brown, who was one of the jockeys most critical of the decision to abandon the event mid-race, was suspended for excessive use of the whip when third on Sense Of Occasion behind Winx in the $4 million Queen Elizabeth Stakes only 40 minutes earlier.

His suspension was originally scheduled to fall when the Sydney Cup is due to be re-run, but he will try to maintain his partnership with Polarisation.

The ATC has also given the green light for Canterbury to resume racing on Easter Monday despite the fact Polarisation and stablemate Penglai Pavilion will still be based at the track's quarantine facility.

Meanwhile, James McDonald has exhausted his final avenue within the racing appeals system after NSW's Racing Appeals Tribunal upheld his 18-month disqualification on Monday.

McDonald was banned for having an interest on a bet on Astern when he rode the colt to victory on debut in December 2015.
