Andrea Mirielle Mitchell works as an outreach caseload midwife at the North West Hospital and Health Service.
Last year the North West Hospital and Health Service labelled Ms Mitchell as the region’s nurse of the year.
The awards is run by industry superfund group HESTA, which acknowledged Ms Mitchell’s travel distances to the gulf to provide care to Aboriginal women.
She traveled to Doomadgee and Mornington Island to provide antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal care in these communities.
HESTA chief executive Debby Blakey said the awards recognised the care and commitment from nurses, midwives, and their teams.
“This year’s finalists demonstrate the profound impact individuals and teams have on the communities they operate in and the patients they are for,” she said.
More to come.
