In past years the pool has closed in the cooler months, strangely even after heating was installed in 2013.
Matt Smith, Mount Isa’s Splashez manager for the past five months, says the pool will remain open right throughout the year.
“The pool will be heated and covers will go on overnight to keep the temperature constant,” Mr Smith said.
“The crew that swim early in the morning will have nice warm water to swim in, but not too warm so that they can’t train. We’re trying to find the balance,” he said.
Mr Smith said that since taking over management the pool staff have built a good rapport with the Mount Isa public.
“As we’ve built the business, the engagement with the community, more and more people feel comfortable coming back,” he said.
The centre is open from 5.30am to 7pm every day.
Registrations for Term 2 swim squads and learn to swim are open now.
“We’re relying heavily on word of mouth, which is the kind of culture that we want to drive,” Mr Smith said.
“It’s about trying to expose the residents of Mount Isa to the facility and what’s available now,” he said.
That includes swim squads, learn to swim programs, aqua aerobics – all in high quality water, according to Mr Smith.
Winter is coming, bring on the heat.
