Shaw is expected to be right for Saturday's derby clash against the Sydney Swans at the SCG, while veteran forward Steve Johnson will train on Wednesday in a bid to prove his fitness after missing the Port Adelaide win with a knee injury.

Midfielder Dylan Shiel has also been cleared of injury following a nasty shoulder knock at the weekend.

The Giants surged to fourth spot with their third consecutive win on Saturday but head to the SCG winless in four attempts at the venue, and coach Leon Cameron said recent form would mean nothing once the ball was bounced this weekend.

"When we come together, it doesn't matter where we sit on the ladder, it's on," Cameron said.

"Only a month ago we got smacked by the Crows by 10 goals. If we're not right on Saturday, the Swans will carve us up.

"It doesn't matter whether we play at the SCG or Spotless or we played at ANZ in that final, it's always a physical game against the Swans.

"We've worked on our contested ball over the last couple of years because we weren't up to scratch and we knew that. We've got better and we're still working on that and it's been a pretty good last three weeks for us."

The Giants have won their last two AFL matches against Sydney, but the Swans still boast eight victories to three against the competition newcomers and were too strong last month in a pre-season fixture.

"The rivalry's building every year. I come here every year and say it's built over the last 12 months and it's no different this year," Giants co-captain Callan Ward said.

"The Swans played in the grand final last year, so we respect the Swans very highly, we always have and we always will.

"We love playing the Swans because the brand of footy is so fierce and so intense so it's going to be on this weekend for sure.

"Whether it's 2012 or 13 or 16 last season, it's always a good game for them and this weekend is no different."

The Giants head into Saturday's clash in the rare position of being ahead of their Sydney rivals on the ladder, and with the potential to deliver a monumental blow to the Swans' finals chances.

"We've played here four times and haven't won so it'd be nice to win this weekend but we just have to go back to playing good basic footy, and playing hard tough footy because it's against the Swans," Ward said.

"Every game is extremely intense, as we know the competition's so even now. Any team can turn up on a day and play extremely good footy, the Swans are no different and the Giants are no different.

"The intensity, it'll be like a finals game."
