Doug set out from his home in the Gold Coast with a goal to make it to Triple J’s One Night Stand, 1880km away.
The purpose of the adventure was to raise money for north Queenslanders suffering the impact of cyclone Debbie.
Cycling the final 121km leg from Cloncurry on Wednesday afternoon, Doug blew out his back tyre as he crossed the border into Mount Isa.
“That’s the way to finish,” he said.
“Coming over that hill and seeing those stacks was just amazing,” he said.
A small crowd was there to greet him including his support driver Trent Eanes from Roma, Mount Isa friend Coz Thompson, and MP Robbie Katter.
Mr Katter and Ms Thompson joined Doug in a final 3km run to Mount Isa township for a well deserved beer.
The self-confessed fitness fanatic has been regularly updating his followers on Facebook with photos and videos of his progress.
Doug’s epic journey began on March 29 and has taken him across highways and desert lands to reach his goal, with little fuss along the way.
He did describe being followed by a group of wedge-tailed eagles and googling “do these birds attack humans”.
With plenty of wildlife and road trains to be cautious of, Doug said safety was always on his mind.
“All the trucks were really good, they pulled to the other side and I always saluted them, you gotta have respect,” he said.
A slight hitch near the beginning caused a brief halt in Roma when Doug’s support crew of one dropped out, but he soon found a replacement driver.
He dedicated one of his last video updates to his sponsors and supporters, and his “beautiful girlfriend, Megan” who has been managing the media side of the marathon.
Mount Isa City Council welcomed Doug on Thursday at 9am at Outback at Isa.
Doug has raised $2175 of his $10,000 goal.
