The Brisbane City Council has been racing against the clock to complete the $20,000-worth of repairs to the the memorial at Canon Garland Place at Toowong Cemetery after it was damaged by vandals in February.

Council confirmed on Wednesday the stone work had been completed, the sword successfully recast and ready to position this week.

A war memorial at Hamilton underwent 12 months of work to ensure it was ready for the popular 5am candle light Anzac Day service by the Brisbane River.

The kilometres of construction zone along Kingsford Smith Drive is not likely to mar Anzac Day celebrations on Tuesday.

The heritage-listed war memorial at Cameron Rocks Reserve originally sat at the end of Toorak Road, Hamilton, well within the site of the $650 million Kingsford Smith Drive upgrade.

The memorial's 440 individual pieces of stone were carefully moved just a few hundred metres down the road to a more spacious home at the end of Cooksley Street.

Environment, Parks and Sustainability chairman David McLachlan said the work started two weeks after Anzac Day 2016 to ensure completion for the 2017 service.

"I am hugely pleased and impressed by the work that was undertaken to make sure that not only has the restoration and relocation been undertaken in a thoughtful and respective way," Cr McLachlan said.

"There used to be a dock here and this is the last soil on which many of those soldiers stood before they went off to service overseas."

Clayfield-Toombul RSL president Bill O'Chee said the memorial was going to be better than it was before.

"This has been a very important task and as far as the sub-branch is concerned we are part of the local community so we recognised that the community needed to grow and flourish, the memorial needed to be moved but we were able to work with council so that we not only allowed for the future but also preserved the past so it's a fantastic outcome."

Council invested $307,000 this financial year towards memorial and heritage restoration works across the city.

In Newstead Park the Vietnam Memorial Precinct and the USA Memorial received cleaning and repairs to stone works and plaques while the Australian Special Wireless Group Monument at Shaw State Estate had heritage stone mason commissioned works.

"We don't go to this extent for all memorials but there is some plinths that need sandstone restoration because they are showing their age but it's right from that scale of work right down to making sure the gardens are planted ready for Anzac Day to flower, that flag poles work, that all those elements that people see on Anzac Day work according to people's expectations," Cr McLachlan said.
