However, the Parramatta centre feels there is unfinished business in the interstate arena and is keen to add to his tally of 18 appearances in the sky blue jersey.

"You want to get another series under the belt, you want to be in a winning series and leave on a high note," Jennings said.

"Unfortunately that's rugby league at times, you don't get to be sent off or finish off the way you picture it, that's the way it is.

"If I get that opportunity again I'll make the most of it."

Jennings has shown glimpses of his best this season for the Eels. He has provided passes for tries, such as the one he dished up to Semi Radradra between his legs against the Dragons in round two. But he has bombed just as many in failing to find his unmarked Fijian winger. On Monday he ran for more than 200 metres, the first time he has achieved the feat in five years.

If Laurie Daley gives him another call-up, he knows what he's going to get.

"I've got that experience, my defensive game is something I've wanted to pride myself on," Jennings said.

"I'd say defensively I'm good, and I've been there and done it and had that experience in Origin.

"I can say I'm quick, but not after the weekend [when run down by David Nofoaluma]."

There are no shortage of three-quarters for Daley to choose from. Jennings will be vying for a spot also coveted by Jarryd Hayne, Josh Dugan, Josh Morris, Jack Bird, Jarrod Crocker, Dylan Walker and James Roberts.

"That's the challenge for myself, and if I want to cement that spot I need to play some good footy," he said.

"It's up to my form and if I'm in good form I'll give myself the best opportunity to be selected."

Of more immediate concern is Penrith. The Eels kept their season alive with a comeback win against Wests Tigers and will come up against an equally desperate Panthers outfit. A former Panther, Jennings said he had a soft spot for his former team.

"Definitely, that's the old club, to see some old boys there like [Matt] Moylan, when I was coming through, they were young pups then, so to see them now shine at Penrith and really drive the Penrith team, you still have a soft spot, but I'm a Parramatta man now," he said.

Panthers supremo Phil Gould has lashed the NRL's decision to schedule just one game between the western rivals.

"We usually play them twice," Jennings said. "Local derby is always good and great for fans to come out ... [we] expect a big crowd on the weekend."
