A young family has bravely transformed their grief into a gift for Mount Isa Hospital’s paediatric unit.
After losing their four-month-old daughter Ariana to a rare metabolic condition in March, Carla and Anthony Busuttil began fundraising for a new monitor for the children’s ward.
Ms Busuttil said although it was a horrible time for the family, they could not have come through it without the support of the wonderful doctors and nurses.
“We were always surrounded by people who were kind and understanding,” Ms Busuttil said.
“Dr Elke Recktenwald and Dr Mark Patrick were amazing, and the nurse team and ambulance officers.”
A Go Fund Me page was set up in Ariana’s name and the family soon reached their $5000 goal.
Some of the funds will go towards the Ronald McDonald House in Townsville where the family stayed during part of Ariana’s treatment.
To donate to their cause visit www.gofundme.com/in-memory-of-ariana or follow their Facebook page “In Memory of Ariana”.
Collection tins have also been placed in shops around Mount Isa including Bronze hair salon.
The Busuttil family want to extend a big thank you to everyone who has donated so far.
