Olympic made a dream cup run last season reaching the semi-finals against Sydney FC and will learn the first opponent of the tournament on Wednesday.

Coach Frank Cachia said victory against Cooma is the momentum booster his side needed before they embark on their FFA Cup campaign in the coming weeks.

"I put it top the boys we needed to respond after losing to Canberra FC in our last hit-out and they responded big time," Cachia said.

"They delivered for themselves more than anything, everyone was pretty disappointed coming off the back of that loss and the focus was to redeem ourselves and we did.

"Every time you lose you question what you did and where you need to improve to get back on track and this win now gives us plenty of confidence to kick start our FFA Cup campaign."

Striker Stephen Domenici moved from Cooma to Olympic this season and on Sunday netted a brace against his former club, but Cachia said the focus was on the team performance.

"We didn't make too much of a big deal of it with Domenici, we tried to concentrate on what we're about as a team and we're just happy to be playing the way we're playing," Cachia said.

Jeremy Habtemarian also finished with a double, while man-of-the-match Daniel Colbertaldo hit an absolute cracker from 30 metres that left the keeper no chance.

There was late consolation goal for the Tigers with a long range rocket from Nick Abot finding the back of the net.

In the other NPL Capital Football fixture, Gungahlin United toughed out a 1-0 victory against Tuggeranong United after an own goal in the first half.

Gungahlin coach Marcel Munoz said his team showed a of ticker to grind out the win in a game of two halves.

"The first 15 mins was very scrappy but we settled and took control creating plenty of opportunities and then the own goal came in the 35th minute before we closed out the half," Munoz said.

"In the second they threw numbers forward which complicated things for us and although they didn't have clear cut opportunities, they had more of the ball.

"I genuinely believed we deserved to win but the boys had to really grind it out and worked really hard to see it through."

Jack Green proved a pillar of strength in the Gungahlin back line and picked up man-of-the-match honours for his efforts.

"Jack was by far the best player on the pitch, he kept us in the game and made sure they really had very little opportunity to create chances," Munoz said.
