I hope everyone had a good break over Easter because the event calendar from here on in is overflowing with activity.
Battle in the Bush on Friday was awesome and I congratulate the organisers for holding this event.
I look forward to the inaugural James Henry Scott Cricket match on Tuesday to commemorate ANZAC Day following the official ceremony.
The cricket will be played on the new pitch at the Rec Grounds and is a great initiative of the RSL and PCYC.
We have recently been awarded the opportunity to host the 2017 Outback Queensland Tourism Awards.
The awards to be held in November this year will bring together tourism operators from across the State, highlighting the year’s outstanding achievers.
Hosting the awards will give us the opportunity to showcase Cloncurry as well as the Overlanders Way and North West Region.
We held our first Council Meeting in Dajarra recently and I thank the community for their hospitality.
Josh Arnold was engaged to work with the community to produce a Dajarra Town song, which was officially launched at lunch prior to the meeting.
Please check it out on Council’s Facebook page, it’s great and really promotes what a terrific little town Dajarra is.
With ANZAC Day approaching, please make the effort to attend a Dawn Service or March. This year is the Centenary of the Flanders Offensive on the Western Front.
1917 saw more than 76,000 Australian Casualties with approximately 22,000 paying the ultimate sacrifice.
No other year in wartime history has been more costly to Australia. We need to ensure the values and ideals those men died to protect, are being preserved and cherished today and into the future.
With many Australian Defence Personnel still deployed overseas in conflict zones, we pray for their safe return home.
Lest We Forget
Regards Greg
