The Queensland Redistribution Commission has released a proposed boundary shake-up which would also add four new seats to the Parliament.

Among the changes would be changing the name of the electorate of Cleveland, currently held by the LNP's Mark Robinson, to Oodgeroo.

Oodgeroo Noonuccal, also known as Kath Walker, was an acclaimed poet, educator and Aboriginal rights activist who born in 1920 and died in 1993.

Messages in support of renaming Cleveland as Oodgeroo were among 74 comments on the objections to the proposal.

The 74 comments were in response to 1546 objections to the Queensland Redistribution Commission's proposed boundary shake-up.

Earlier this month, the LNP had argued for Cleveland's name to stay the same, saying it was difficult to understand why it should be changed when very limited boundary changes were recommended to Cleveland.

"There is a strong sense of community identity which revolves around Cleveland itself and the broader Redlands community," the LNP said in a submission.

"While Oodgeroo Noonuccal is widely recognised as a poet and activist, there do not seem to be compelling reasons to remove the name Cleveland."

Labor supported the use of geographical descriptors - Indigenous or non-Indigenous - in the names of state electorates, and specifically asked for McConnel to remain as Brisbane Central.

Gail Bell said she worked with Ms Walker on environmental campaigns in the past.

"(It is) most fitting that the state electorate encompassing her homeland be named Oodgeroo in honour of her multiple achievements," she wrote in her comments on the objections.

Another commenter, Lee Curtis, said renaming the electorate would contribute to reconciliation efforts.

Elizabeth Johnston said Oodgeroo was a wonderful poet, artist and great warrior on behalf of her people.

"I fully and enthusiastically support naming the electorate in her honour," she said.

Erin Miller said the area had a rich and celebrated connection with its Indigenous people, which should be recognised.

"The newly adopted name of Oodgeroo should remain in replacement for the previous name of Cleveland which represents just one suburb within electoral boundary and ignores the inclusion of the bay islands," she wrote.

Christopher Day said it was about time the electorate represented its true origins, "not those of invaders".

Ngaire McLean fully supported the change to Oodgeroo: "Oodgeroo deserves all the recognition she can get as a unique and influential poet and activist."

The Quandamooka Yoolooburrabee Aboriginal Corporation, which had earlier said it was "delighted" with the decision to rename the seat of Cleveland, called on people to submit objections to the commission, providing suggested wording which was replicated in several submissions.

However, some did not agree, with one person from Redland Bay writing in to say: "I dislike the name Oodjeroo (sic), and do not agree with the name change."

Paul Smith said Cleveland should remain the same or be named Quandamooka.

???"To name it Oodgeroo only recognises one individual of one family group of 12 families that make up the three tribes of the Quandamooka people," he said.

In the LNP's comments on the objections, state director Michael O'Dwyer pointed out that a quarter of objections were about the names for proposed districts.

His comments on the objections did not specifically address the Oodgeroo name proposal and were published concurrently with the messages in support of the name change.

Mr O'Dwyer said that at this final stage, it would be unwise for any major reworking of boundaries without further consultation unless a clear community view had been expressed for change, and claimed some objections argued for substantial re-engineering and were in some instances "politically self-serving".

The final determination for Queensland's state electoral districts is due to be published on May 26.
