Dean Robinson, 23, from Bullpit Boxing Club, will fight Wayne Williams, 34, from the PCYC gym. They both weigh around the 85 kg range.
Jack Langton, 30, weighs 70 kg and trains at PCYC. He prepares for his first fight, against Bryn Cronshaw, 27 years-old and 68 kg, from Bullpit,
Alice Springs boxer Mike Jenkins, 23, from G Training, is ready to fight Jack Parker, 25, who trains at Bullpit. Jenkins weighs 75 kg while Parker weighs 73.
Clayton Sharp, 30, will travel from Mornington Island’s Mundalbi Boxing Club. He weighs 73 kg and has had three fights. Sharp fights Corey Thorpe, 21, a Bullpit fighter who weighs 75 kg. The promoter has carefully watched the younger fighter spar and knows he can keep up with Sharp.
Paul Taverner, 34, is from Mount Isa All Stars. The 95 kg fighter fought in last year’s Battle in the Outback in a footy grudge match, having represented Tigers. He comes back for more, likely to use his long reach against another Mount Isa fighter of the same weight, 22-year-old Tyron Turaga.
Luke Crumblin, 24, weighs 76 kg and is from the PCYC gym. “Luke is a very dedicated boxer and he’s got a lot of potential as he gets more experienced to win a lot of fights," said Crawford.
Crumblin is matched with Townsville fighter Garrett Schmid, 26, who weighs 78 kg and trained at KBB. He’s had four fights but the promoter knows little about his style in the ring.
David Vutaluki, estimated age of 23, weighs 110 kg and trains at Bullpit. He fights Evan Crossing, 36, from PCYC, who has dropped to 100 kg.
Bullpit’s Shane Butler, 35, weighing 95 kg, fights PCYC’s Heemi Tuwairua, 20, who weighs 103 kg.
Bullpit’s Mark Solomon, 26, weighing 85 kg, is matched against Mount Isa All Stars fighter Scott Crawford, 35, weighing 88 kg.
As of Tuesday Crawford was yet to determine the details of two more bouts.
The Battle in the Outback will be held at the Mount Isa Basketball Centre on Saturday night. Doors open 6.30pm.
The first bout is scheduled for 7.30pm. Several tables were still to be sold but general admission tickets could be bought at the door.
