There was no surprise then that he was left smiling on Anzac Day after something of a breakout game in Essendon's 18-point victory that left him with the Anzac Medal.

On Tuesday he won on Anzac Day for the first time, the 23-year-old also earning the distinction of being the first Essendon key forward to claim the individual best-on-ground honours on footy's famous day.

"It's always a good feeling playing on the MCG and doing what I wanted to do as a kid," Daniher said.

"I always dreamt of playing for the Essendon Football Club. To get the opportunity every week is something I'm not taking for granted."

Daniher was somewhat inaccurate with a return of 3.4 and one out on the full but his game, replete with dash and endeavour, was eye-catching.

Witness his remarkable goal with a low, driving kick that he let fly from insider the centre square before skidding through. He also found space for a final quarter major that effectively sealed Essendon's first Anzac Day triumph in four years.

More importantly, Daniher was the focal point of a highly functioning forward line, including multiple goal-kickers Orazio Fantasia, Cale Hooker and Josh Green.

Daniher acknowledges that the Bombers got something of a wake-up call with their shock loss to Carlton in the wet two weeks ago.

"Hopefully that was a hard lesson we had to learn about playing wet weather footy," Daniher said of the round-three defeat.

"You've got to bring the right attitude. It's a more simple attitude.

"(Today) is a stepping stone going forward for us. It's round five. I think now we've got a feel about how we're tracking."

Forward line teammate Green, previously of the Brisbane Lions, said the club's set up in 2017 was starting to gel.

"I think the most attractive thing about the forward line is that we can get up and have the speed over the back and then we've got two talls that bring it to ground and give us an opportunity," he said.

"We're not getting ahead of ourselves but we understand that if we do the work during the week we'll get the results on the weekend."

Green has come to Essendon after 81 games in six seasons with the Lions and has now featured in Essendon's landmark opening round win over Hawthorn and the Anzac Day clash - both matches attracting huge MCG crowds.

"Even today was another jump up from round one," said the 24-year-old, for whom 40,000 would had previously been a bumper crowd.

"Unbelievable. One I'll look back on after my career and know that I was very lucky to be part of.

"I've never played in a grand final, but I feel that that was close to it."
