In the 1950s and 60s Bart Cummings managed from a small stable in Adelaide to rewrite Australian racing history, with many of his records remaining intact.

His son Anthony and grandson Edward will take their Adelaide Derby hopeful Screamarr to South Australia on Saturday for a valuable lead-up race for the classic.

Earlier this year Anthony Cummings told the racing world that Edward would join him at his Randwick stable after the 30-year-old had worked for his father as a foreman for a number of years.

Edward Cummings' younger brother James is already training on his own after the death of his grandfather, who he was in partnership with.

Anthony Cummings has high hopes for Screamarr, a $300,000 Magic Millions purchase, in the Chairman's Handicap.

"It's great to have Edward with me, but both boys, he and James, have been around horses working with me and also Dad since they were kids.

"They know a lot about the industry and they know a lot about how a stable works so it's just good to have Edward on board and if we can get the money on Saturday it would kick us off with our first major interstate win," he said.

Anthony Cummings was born in Adelaide. His father built a huge team of horses in the 1960s, after which he expanded to Melbourne and then Sydney.

Cummings explained that Edward went to university and, after gaining a degree in media and communications, immediately joined Anthony as foreman and at the same time James had already started with Bart.

"I think the partnership will be great. We work well together and probably more importantly we understand each other," he said.

Screamarr, according to his trainers, has steadily got stronger this autumn and finished well to be third in the group 3 Packer Plate at Randwick this month.

"He cost a lot of money but had interest in everything else but winning races as a colt so we gelded him and he's started to turn things around," Anthony Cummings said.

"He raced on the pace at Randwick and I think he'll be better off on a drier track and our main intention is to have him right for the Adelaide Derby, which will be his ultimate aim."

Bart Cummings trained a record 12 Melbourne Cup winners and has been successful in nearly every group 1 race staged in Australia.

On Saturday in Adelaide the club will stage the eight-race program with each event worth $100,000.
